ALL ABOUT ME
Dèsirée E. Plaisance, MA, LMT, CMT
I've been a massage therapist since 2007, practicing in the New Orleans area until moving to Humboldt County in the summer of 2021. I did my basic training at Blue Cliff College in Metairie, LA, and did most of my advanced training with Peter Fuller of the Advanced Massage Training Center of New Orleans. With over 1600 hours of training, plus my academic studies in Medical & Evolutionary Anthropology and my experience teaching in the Tulane School of Medicine Standardized Patient Program, I am uniquely qualified to offer this integrated advanced therapy form I've dubbed "Functional Wellness Massage" to improve the health and wellbeing of my adopted community.

MY PURPOSE
Functional Wellness
My mission is to offer my skills and knowledge in the form of advanced bodywork in order to improve the functional wellness of the people of my community. In short, to help my clients live fuller, more pain-free lives without the hindrance of unnecessary functional limitations so that they can do the things they want and need to do more easily.
MY WORK
My Professional Development
May 2004
MA, University of Tennessee, Knoxville
I received my Master's Degree in Anthropology (Medical & Evolutionary Anthropology) in May of 2004, and returned to New Orleans to begin research for my PhD dissertation at that time. I discontinued my studies in Fall of 2005 after Hurricane Katrina made all the best laid of plans moot for so many.
April 2007-June 2021
Licensed Massage Therapist
I graduated from Blue Cliff College with my basic massage training, passed the national board exam (NCBTMB), and became a licensed massage therapist in the State of Louisiana in April of 2007. Over the years I studied many advanced modalities, such as myofascial, clinical/orthopedic, and craniosacral massage, and I worked doing massage variously as a solo therapist, in concert with physical therapists, and at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, among others. I also worked part time teaching medical students how to do physical exams and interview patients at Tulane University School of Medicine from 2015-2021. Envy (or pity) the students who learned orthopedic assessment from me.

Founder, BioMechanique
I moved to Humboldt County in Summer of 2021, and have been slowly getting established in the area: getting certified to practice massage in the State of California and working as a massage therapist at a local spa. Now that I have built a reputation, it is time to bring my unique form of massage to the community as a solo therapist through BioMechanique.
